Tips for your survey
- Measure at several moments: the end of the first week, 30 days and 90 days. Each stage shows different problems.
- Use the same questions with every new hire, so you can compare how onboarding changes over time.
- If only a few people join at a time, it’s easy to tell who answered. Don’t ask for names and explain who will read the answers.
- Share the results with whoever runs onboarding and with the managers who welcome new people.
- If someone says something was missing, like access or time with their manager, fix it quickly. They’ll see their feedback mattered.
Frequently asked questions
- When should I send the onboarding survey?
- The most common moment is 30 days after someone joins. For more detail, add a short survey at the end of the first week and another at 90 days.
- How many questions should it have?
- Between 5 and 10 each time. New hires are learning a lot at once, so a short survey gets better answers.
- What is the difference between onboarding and orientation?
- They overlap. Orientation usually means the first welcome sessions, while onboarding is the whole process until the person works on their own.
