How it’s calculated

Promoters answer 9 or 10, passives 7 or 8, and detractors 0 to 6.

eNPS = % promoters − % detractors. Passives count in the total but don’t add or subtract.

The result goes from −100 (all detractors) to +100 (all promoters).

How to read the result

  • eNPS usually comes out lower than customer NPS, because people are more demanding about their own job. A negative number isn’t always an alarm, but it is a reason to ask what’s going on.
  • What helps most is measuring it every 3 or 6 months to see whether it goes up or down, and comparing teams or locations.
  • Always add an open question (“What would you change most?”). The number tells you how much; the comments tell you why.
  • Keep it anonymous. If people think their answer can be traced back to them, scores go up and the result stops being useful.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good eNPS?
It varies a lot by country, industry and team size. As a general reference, above 0 is acceptable, 10 to 30 is good and above 50 is excellent.
How often should I measure it?
Quarterly or twice a year is typical. Monthly tires the team, and month-to-month changes are rarely real.
How do I run an anonymous eNPS survey?
In SurvIQ you can create the survey with the NPS question, share one link with the whole team and not ask for names or emails. Results show the score and the three groups automatically.
