How it’s calculated
Response rate = completed responses / people invited × 100.
Start rate = people who started / people invited × 100.
Completion rate = completed responses / people who started × 100.
How to read the result
- If few people start, review the invitation message, when you send it and the channel (WhatsApp often works better than email).
- If many start but few finish, the survey is long or has a question that puts people off. Check which page they leave on.
- Reminders after 2 or 3 days usually raise the response rate noticeably.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a good response rate?
- It varies a lot: email surveys to customers usually get 10% to 30%. Close groups (employees, students) can go above 50%.
- What if I don’t know how many started?
- Leave it empty and you’ll only see the response rate. In SurvIQ the figure shows in results as the completion rate.
- How do I raise the completion rate?
- Make the survey shorter, put easy questions first, show one question per page on phones and avoid required open questions.
